We’ve Got The Scoop On The Feud Between Sarah Jessica Parker & Kim Cattrall!!
Having been a devout fan of Sex and the City for the whole seven years of the show’s existence, I have deluded myself into thinking that my favourite cast of female friends are actually friends in real life! However, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker have proven me wrong!
Set in New York City and based on a book by the same name by author Candace Bushnell; Sex and the City ran from 1998 to 2004, with two major films in 2008 and 2010. SATC won 7 out of 54 Emmy Award nominations, 8 out of 24 Golden Globe Award nominations, and is included in Time Magazine’s list of 100 Best TV Shows of All-Time! Discussions over the third instalment of the SATC movie were well underway when the hostility between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker was picked up on when Cattrall said that she doesn’t appreciate being held responsible for putting a stop on the movie. “We’ve never been friends. We’ve been colleagues and in some ways that’s a very healthy place to be…”. These were the comments that started the feud, however SJP replied that “We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story.” and she believed that what they had was friendship. In September 2017 SJP confirmed that “SATC 3” will not be made.
To add insult to injury, fans where outraged over Kim Cattrall’s slamming of SJP over the weekend through a couple of posts on Cattrall’s Twitter account and Instagram page. The whole matter blew up after Cattrall’s family went through the tragedy of losing her brother in mysterious circumstances; that’s when Kim took to Twitter and Instagram to thank people who showed support and later to shame SJP. “I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker” Cattrall wrote. In the caption she wrote “My Mom asked me today ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone? Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now.” She went on to say “Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.” Additionally, Cattrall shared a link to an article that was previously published in the New York Post entitled “Inside The Mean-Girls Culture That Destroyed ‘Sex and the City’.”
In a recent post SJP was defended by her “Divorce” co-star Molly Shannon saying that these statements can’t be true because SJP is “supportive and so wonderful and we get along so well”. Despite all the media frenzy surrounding this feud, deep down, I am still hoping that this will be some form of a media stunt just to create some interest around the movie and all will be good and well in the end!!
