Victoria’s Secret Angels Eat Carbs!! But Not Just Any Carbs!
When you think of Victoria’s Secret Angels….you would think crazy fitness sessions with a bit of starvation thrown in!! So when you read something that says that VS Angels eat carbs I am sure you would be baffled just like me. Josephine Skriver and Jasmine Tookes, are not only Victoria’s Secret Angels, they are established fitness influencers and their shared account on Instagram; Joja boasts over 500,000 followers. And what’s even better than all that…. yup you guessed it …they eat CARBS! But not just any carbs….
Skriver and Tookes shared a video on their IG where they discuss the importance of eating carbs for fuelling their bodies and acquiring energy. However, they believe that not all carbs are created equal and when given a choice between quitting pasta, bread, or rice…the pair believe that they would willingly quit flour….which of course means bread and pasta …but they would never give up rice!
Contrary to popular belief, rice has many benefits but the portion size has to be controlled for the benefits to outweigh the calorie intake. Rice is a great source of energy because it is made up of complex carbohydrates that take longer to digest thus presenting us with a continuous supply of energy. The starch content in rice helps the body maintain its blood sugar levels which deems it beneficial for diabetics. White and brown rice have great nutritional values; white rice is rich in calcium, iron, as well as vitamins such as niacin, vitamin D, thiamin and riboflavin. Brown rice is an exceptional source of fibre and aids digestion. It is also believed that brown rice has the ability to prevent Alzheimer’s due to the high amount of neurotransmitters present in it.
The fibre content in brown rice protects against cancerous cells, and is great for those who want to lose weight. I vouch for that wholeheartedly! I personally lost the most weight when I went on a system that eliminated anything flour-based and focused on having my rice instead. Rice is also a great diet staple for those with gluten intolerance and for those suffering from celiac disease. It is also a great option for those who cannot tolerate wheat, barley, and oats. So is it any wonder that the Asian cuisine is drenched in rice dishes? They even have it for breakfast!
