The Girlfriend’s Guide to Spring 2018 Shoe Trends

This Spring's shoe trends are both familiar and refreshingly new. They haven’t reinvented the wheel, but rather updated popular styles with a fresh color or modification. We bring you the trends that have been updated rather dramatically. Chunky boots are in but they look exactly the same as every season, same for the t-strap sandal and the flat pointy heel so we haven't mentioned those.

Ankle Strap

This season’s ankle strap shoe is more original than season's past. The traditional Dolce & Gabbana block heel with ankle strap is still around, but we are seeing more unique concepts. Additionally, there are many lacey ankle straps that tie round the ankle a number of times, and are an extension of the shoe itself.

Modern Gladiator

For the brands that felt the gladiator was a little to boho, this season gives them a fresh opportunity to create a modern gladiator. The trend goes in one of two directions, either super delicate as see at Rick Owens or super chunky as seen at Balmain.

Toe Sandals

It all started with Celine a few seasons ago, the brand launched a shoe closed only at the big toe that looked a little bizarre. This season's toe sandals are simpler and more familiar, think glorified flip flop.

Strappy Sandals

It’s quite interesting how this season’s strappy sandals have been modified. It’s almost as if the only common denominator is the fact that there are straps involved. There are no solid rules when it comes to this trend, mixed in with plastic or jewels, it all works.

Plastic

This trend has not gone away, and you might find yourself finally succumbing to either a lucite heel or a plastic see-through pump or boot. You have been warned.

Millennial Pink

Lilac may be the color of the year according to Pantone, but it is millennial pink that is having a moment on the runway.A strong, pale pink with a hint of grey this is the color to go for when it comes to shoes.

The Cleavage Pump

If you hate showing your toe cleavage then this is not the trend for you.The deep v-neck shoes that we have been buying for the past few seasons have literally disappeared. In their place, shoes that are completely the opposite, showing a lot more of our feet than we may care to share.

Pointy, Kitten Heel

No surprises here, this pointy shoe in a kitten heel is hot for Spring.Coming in almost every leather and texture the most popular ones are quite ornate, with prints matched to rhinestones for example…Let loose a little with this trend.

Platform

We always welcome the platform heel, its almost cheating because you get the height without the painfully high heel. The platform serves as a ‘step’ so the heel is actually lower than you think.

Contrast Toe

There is just something super-classy about a contrast toe, maybe because we associate it with a Chanel flat.In any case, this season’s contrast toe is less-stuffy!
