Rosie Assoulin | The Designer Of This Generation
Rosie Assoulin presented her collection at New York Fashion Week. A designer from this new generation, the kind that communicate via Snapchat and take many many selfies. Not a common occurrence in the fashion world, it is crucial to watch this designer to see how ‘they see fashion’. Over the years, the millennial’s lifestyle has started to creep into fashion. Trainers and sweatpants flood the runways, in addition to more relaxed silhouettes.
Rosie is known for her generous proportions, billowing sleeves and exaggerated ruffles are her trademark and this collection was no different. Although her view of fashion is modern, her workmanship is old school. The pieces are beautifully made, and she plays with her volumes and proportions with the skill of an old master.
Yesterday’s collection started off in a restrained manner, as if she wanted to ease us into her world. The first few fabulous trouser suits, one in khaki and the second in creme, softened us up well. Slowly but surely, Rosie lets loose, with unlikely color combinations and a variety of layered looks, the talented designer introduced us to a world of ruffles and one shoulder tops. In a typical Rosie fashion, the proportions played the greatest part of her looks.
The grand finale was of course her evening dresses, made of daytime fabrics but of ball gown proportions, Rosie made her mark fabulously on the NYFW calendar.
