The buzz words after the Prada show were 'traditional' and 'eccentric'. Miuccia Prada's spring presentation brought together Prada's iconic past in the form of traditional tried and tested silhouettes, with her future fashion predictions. The air of whimsical eccentricity in Milan is strong, coloring traditional fashion house collections with color, mix and match and kitsch accessories. We present to you, all you need to know about the Prada spring show.
Prada presented their spring '16 collection at their Milan headquarters. Decked in gold and fiberglass, the industrial-style premises was transformed into a golden room, to match the gold lipstick on models perhaps…
The runway was dominated by some of Miuccia's old favorites. The boxy jacket and pencil skirt, the midi shift and of course the knee length boxy coat, worn open. I am sure many in the audience were reminiscing about the golden 90s, the golden room fanning the flames.
Stripes, lots and lots of them. Strong statements of modernity and the austerity characteristic of Miucca in her earlier years. These thoughts of the past were immediately erased as the models neared the audience, this season's stripes were more decadent in their texture and more artistic in their application. Geometric patterns, a multitude of stripes and Mondrian style sweaters all put together to create a creative medley that is inspiring yet inimitable.
The semi sheer organza voile skirts created a delicate overlay, the midi dresses adorned with bibs of lattice confetti, the boxy coat jackets embroidered with modern floral motifs injected the old Prada austerity with a shot of 2016 eclectic creativity.
Fendi have overtaken Prada in the accessories game, and although this season's Prada bags can't compete with the creativity seen at Fendi, their understated elegance will attract many. The shoes seen on the runway can compete with the Fendi creativity and will be on many a wish list.
#6 Front Row
The usual suspects were in the front row, perhaps the only surprise was the fact that Miuccia was unable to attend due to a death in the family.
#7 Riccardo Tisci
The fact that Riccardo showed his collection early on in New York, gave him the opportunity to attend many other, later shows. Usually his Paris show would be after Milan, not affording him this luxury.
Riccardo summed up Miuccia's collection perfectly,
#8 Achievement Compared to Fendi
Yesterday Fendi showed us a collection that was deep in textures, techniques and “Fendi". No youthful, dreamy creativity to speak of. Miuccia was able to achieve both seamlessly, incorporating her iconic past with her youthful outlook. That is the magic of Prada, transforming the known into the new.
