Michael Kors loves when women make one of his bags an It Bag.

The American designer is known for his arm candy and jewellery, as well as his catwalk pieces. Although he's flattered when fashion fans lust over his designs, Michael makes sure that each of his creations are made to the highest standard, so women can enjoy them for years to come.

"First, I think women are always the ones who decide what bag becomes a hit , or an It! And yes - it's great when it happens," he smiled to marieclaire.co.uk.

"But I also think that women are moving away from the idea of the super-trendy, one-season-and-done bag. They're looking for quality and durability. Women want to invest in a bag that they can use forever, that they'll be able to reach for day in and day out. That's what makes something an It bag - it needs to be practical and versatile but still luxurious."

The 55-year-old presents bi-annually at New York Fashion Week, and always keeps his finger on the pulse when it comes to trend setting.

With an A-list clientele boasting the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and Blake Lively, Michael says the key to staying current is people watching.

"I people-watch all the time - it's one of my favourite things to do while we're sitting in traffic. I listen to the women in my office, I listen to my friends and I try to solve the problems they're encountering in their wardrobe every day. My schedule makes it impossible to do as many trunk shows as I once did, though I actually love doing them. But with social media, we're constantly getting feedback from our fans - it's like a 24/7 digital trunk show," he smiled.
