Kourtney Kardashian Gets Political!!
Kourtney Kardashian seems to be dominating the news this week what with her new makeup collaboration with sister Kylie; however this time it concerns an issue that seems a little more serious. Kourtney participated with members of the Environmental Working Group (EWG) at Capitol Hill for a briefing on cosmetics reform.
It seems that the issue of cosmetics safety is getting increased attention lately, and the EWG has been working extensively to raise awareness about the hazardous chemicals contained in personal care products. They are aiming at empowering the FDA to impose stricter regulations on the cosmetics industry since it has been more than 80 years since Congress was involved in passing any sort of cosmetics legislation. They also support the Personal Care Products Safety Act which when approved will force cosmetics companies to reveal the exact ingredients used in their products, to register the facilities where they manufacture their products, and to ensure the placement of warning labels where necessary.
Kourtney’s involvement aims at bringing this issue to the limelight since it is no secret that the reality-TV star is always voicing her concern as to what products she allows her children and herself to use. She admits that having children prompted her to do her own research on this issue, as well as being on TV and having to undergo makeup and hair daily while having no idea what ingredients are in the products that are being used on her. Other than working with the EWG, she also follows the Healthy Living App which provides environmental ratings for over 200,000 foods and products. It seems that the current laws impose very few restrictions on the ingredients used in personal care products. This bill is also supported by a number of beauty companies such as Procter & Gamble, Estée Lauder, L’Oréal, and Juice Beauty, among others.
When drilled by reporters about her family’s involvement in the beauty business she explained that her sisters’ products have been checked by the EWG and they scored well, but she wasn’t able to discuss the specific ingredients used by Kylie Cosmetics or KKW Beauty!!
