Gwyneth Paltrow's long-awaited make-up line is based on things she already had in her cosmetics bag.
The 43-year-old actress is Juice Beauty's new creative director and has teamed up with the brand on an organic and vegan line of colors. It has been in the making for a long time and finally became available to buy on Monday (11Jan16), with Gwyneth happy to discuss how she settled on the 78 shades of foundation, eye color, lipstick and makeup.
Gwyneth's focus was on cosmetics which would last but also didn't contain any nasties, meaning talc, petroleum, artificial fragrance or parabens. This is because she became concerned about the impact make-up might have on her health - superficially in terms of ageing, but also on a deeper level.
Paltrow explains how she “naively” believed in the cosmetics industry to regulate the ingredients in their products, because how, in 2016, is it still legal for American women to unknowingly slather tire lubricants, artificial dye and carcinogens on their face?
She suggests some make-up contain carcinogens, which is why she wanted an organic or natural range instead. This led her to create her own with Juice Beauty Brand because at first she couldn't find anything which fit the bill.
“I think the consumer is incredibly aware now,” the star added. “Everyone wants to know what they’re putting into their bodies… what they’re putting on their skin. Consumers are demanding transparency. And also, the consumer has a lot of information now that we didn’t have 10 or 20 years ago about what all of these various toxins are doing - whether that be (things in our food), or plastics in our personal care products. Ultimately, the consumer is what will change the marketplace.”
The range costs between $20 for an eyeliner to $48 for make-up brushes.
