Grace Coddington x Louis Vuitton Produce A ’Cat’walk Cruise 2018 Show
Louis Vuitton has certainly been in the news for the month of May. Firstly to announce the renewal of Nicolas Ghesquière’s contract at Louis Vuitton. The designer announced the news on Instagram with the hashtag #notgoinganywhere. The designer has been deftly managed to increase the sales at Louis Vuitton while still raising the bar on creativity.
To confirm this the latest global brands ranking by WPP and Kantar Millward Brown show luxury companies have increased their value by 28 percent, with Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Gucci in the top three rankings. Louis Vuitton and Hermès are valued at 41.1 billion and 28bn dollars respectively.
Last night saw the debut of the Louis Vuitton Resort 2019 collection at the Foundation Maeght in Saint Paul de Vence. With Joan Miró’ sculptures dotting the grounds it wasn’t hard to figure out Ghesquière’s inspiration for the collection. The sculptural fluidity of the collection expressed a certain freedom of design which was greatly welcomed by the fashion community.
One of the many highlights of the show was of course Ghequière’s collaboration on a collection of handbags, leather goods and ready-to-wear with iconic Vogue editor Grace Coddington. A selection of the house’s traditional monogram canvas were decorated with the illustrations of Grace’s two cats Pumpkin and Blanket and Nicolas’ dog Leon. Coddington herself showed up in a silk pajama from the collection which is due out in October 2018. As for her thoughts on the collaboration, she had this to say:
“My collaboration with Nicolas and his team at Louis Vuitton has been so much fun…I hope it will be a dream come true for Pumpkin, Blanket, and Nicolas’s dog—it certainly is for me. It started with our love for animals, it’s where Nicolas and I really connect beyond fashion.” The full range of items, including handbags, leather goods, and ready-to-wear, will arrive in Louis Vuitton stores in October.
