Got The Same Body Type? Get Style Tips From Your Favorite Celebrities

It is true, not everyone looks like Gigi Hadid and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley however there are less than perfect celebrities too. The work of their stylists ensures that their best assets are on show. Whether you are pregnant or top-heavy there is a celebrity with your body type, so lets get some tips from the world’s top stylists!

Before we start though it is important to keep two very different philosophies in mind. When styling you can either create an overall illusion or you can highlight a specific feature..depending on the situation…

1 || If You’re Skinny Like Amal Clooney

No one can accuse Amal Clooney of being curvaceous. She is as skinny as it gets, yet she always appears almost sexy in her clothing. Her stylists work with plenty of dramatic lines and/or strong colors to create an illusion of shape instead of focusing on any specific body part. Take her pale pink Prada dress at the recent AFI red carpet, in celebration of her husband George. The dramatic off-shoulder neckline creates a strong shoulder and the severe different in skirt lengths draws attention away from her thin legs.

Then there was her Richard Quinn MET gala outfit which is actually still up for debate, again a broad shoulder is created the instant you put a horizontal line at the chest… And with that full skirt and contrasting skinny pant who has time to consider her prepubescent hips.

Last but not least, there is the Stella McCartney dress she wore to the Royal Wedding last month. A strong mustard yellow contrasted perfectly with her olive skin and brunette locks to create a statement we just couldn’t escape.

2 || If You’re Top-Heavy Like Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz has got great boobs and she cannot lie ;) She also has a very short torso, which is not particularly small. She has in the past styled her look in two ways, either highlighting her cleavage or creating the illusion of a more hourglass silhouette.

In 2015 Cruz opted for an off-shoulder Chanel cocktail dress that kept the eye firmly fixed at the chest thanks to a fabulously bling diamanté detail.

Fast-forwarding to the Goya Awards this February and the opposite is true. Her Versace dress creates the illusion of a waist, further defines the shoulders and in the process reduces the influence of her bustline.

Same was true of her Versace dress in 2016 at the Goya Awards. This time, Cruz’ stylist slashed her busom with a single horizontal stroke across her chest. Not only did this line reduce her bust, but it instantly created the illusion of broad shoulders which was instantly balanced out with a full add-on skirt.

3 || If You’re Bottom-Heavy Like Jennifer Lawrence

We’re not saying Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t have an amazing figure, actually its perfectly feminine with her thighs and hips slightly larger than her upper body. You may not have guessed it though. Her stylists work overtime trying to create the illusion of an hourglass figure. In February of this year, during her Red Sparrow tour she wore a lurex Dior dress that created the illusion of a generous cleavage thanks to some contouring and a deep plunging neckline. Same was true of her Versace velvet number a week or so later. A deep plunging V neck and a slit up the leg creates a perfect silhouette. The V creates a busom and the slit takes off an inch or two at the thighs, just perfect.

4 || If You’re Tall and Lanky Like Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman

These two fashion sirens are much taller and lankier than you can imagine. Cate is 175cm and Nicole is 180cm, both under 60kg, that makes for skinny tall girls. Their aim is always to create ‘more’ in the way of style with 3D effects. Whether it’s Cate’s top to bottom embroidered Missoni pantsuit at the Ocean’s 8 premiere or Nicole Kidman’s Givenchy number at the Lincoln Center last month, the same applies. In the past both celebrities have played with volume as well, Cate’s exaggerated shoulder at the 2016 Oscars, is similar to Nicole’s Gucci number at the SAG Awards in 2017.

5 || If You’re Pregnant Like Kate Hudson

Well the days of wearing free-flowing chiffon pregnancy dresses are truly over. The more shape you can show the more you can prove that other than your blossoming belly you are still ‘the same’. We did realize something though with Kate Hudson’s appearance at the Pop Sugar Playground last week, small prints…Her Preen by Thornton Breghazzi ensemble managed to create an illusion of shape without actually highlighting her stomach per sei. Same is true of Clare Danes animal print dress at the Tony’s the other day. A quick look back at Blake Lively’s Cannes red carpet look on 2016 and the same theory holds true.. Show your shape, don’t hide it, then add a fine print of embellishment to take the focus away from your belly all together.
