Your would have thought that Karl Lagerfeld was busy enough already with his collections for Chanel, Fendi and his eponymous line. Apparently not, Karl Lagerfeld staged the first couture show for Fendi on July 8th, and it was almost entirely consistent of fur pieces. Dubbed “Haute Fourrure" It would be fair to say that PETA was not pleased !

Wednesday's show was Fendi's most extravagant display of fur yet, and animal rights activists were on high alert. Outside the show, protesters greeted showgoers with gruesome signage and aggressive shouting. But, considering the craftsmanship and the long-standing reputation Fendi has for its exquisite coats, we doubt that the couture buyers in attendance will be deterred.

The show highlighted the Italian house's expertise in manipulating animal pelts as if they were fabrics. Patch working them together with slivers of leather, plastic transparencies or feathers. It demonstrated the confidence of Fendi in this arena, in addition to their confidence in the demand that fur will continue to attract.

As a side note, it was quite hilarious that some guests turned up in fur pieces in the sweltering Paris heat.
