Anna Dello Russo Sells 150 Of Her Iconic Clothes
Hear out people! February is not only the month of Valentine’s.. This Feb 25th will mark the day when fashion editor, accessories queen, and street style star Anna Dello Russo will spread the LOVE too!
Anna Dello Russo just announced that she is selling 150 pieces from her decades-deep clothing archive in a flash sale via Net-a-Porter's Instagram Stories on February 25. And inexpensively, too. With pieces starting at £15 for accessories and reaching £700 for outerwear, all proceeds will be donated to the British Fashion Council Education Foundation. There will also be an auction at Christie's on February 24 (on the opening night of Milan fashion week) of 30 of her most-precious archive pieces.
Describing fashion as the wind by which she sails through life, Anna says:
“Clothes are made to talk. My archive is my fashion alphabet. And now I want to pass that on to a new generation.”
Endless questions and concerns are on the rise. These ensembles—“the whole look! All the shoes and accessories too. Top to toe,” just as she first wore them. What’s going on with Anna? Did she reach rock bottom and needs liquidity.. Of coarse NOT! She continues to say, “This is not for profit! There is no nothing. I don’t want money from this—it is about passing on my heritage.”
The pieces up for sale on Net-a-Porter are from Anna’s best street style era, a.k.a. the ”Noughties" -2000-2009- and will feature her best flashy and splashy items! Having always kept a second apartment just for clothes, Dello Russo's boyfriend Angelo Gioia didn't think holding on to every last item was such a hot idea.
"When I met him, I asked, 'Angelo, where should I put my clothes?'. He said, 'No space, sorry!' And I knew in that moment that I had to give space to life," she told Vogue UK.
Modern fashion’s greatest archive are owned by Anna, selling them for peanuts is intriguing though, her ever-expanding, compulsively compiled collection? The creator of “Fashion Shower” nods with utter certainty: “Si!” And so it is.
“Not so many pieces are really important to pass on. I spent six months editing out the very best of it for the Christie’s auction and Net-A-Porter. The rest—well, it was like a sale at Bergdorfs; I put every label in its own corner— Gigli, Lang, Alaia, everything, and not one piece without a label. And then we let it go. My assistants were crying!”
Which brings us now to what pieces are awaiting us, one is Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga. The heart piece from the last Hedi Slimane show at Saint Laurent. And there are many others from Italy, of course. A complete look from Giorgio Armani in 1988 that Anna wore to her sister’s wedding: shoes, dress, shirt, underwear, everything. An amazing look by Gianni Versace too. There are two Prada looks, including the chandelier dress and one from Miu Miu. Outfits by Raf Simons for Jil Sander, Burberry, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Balmain, Margiela, Roberto Cavalli, Lanvin, Roksanda Ilincic, McQueen, Tom Ford for Gucci, and Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy.
The auction’s profits will be donated to a Swarovski fund benefiting fashion students at Central Saint Martins..
