10 Rejuvenating Rituals To Adopt Now Instead of Waiting For New Year’s!
I once read that we should all cancel New Year’s Resolutions and aim to put our resolutions down at the beginning of fall; September or October! This really resonated with me as I realised that I have been doing just that for years and years. There is something about summer ending and the beginning of fall and going back to school that just feels like a new beginning of some sort. The beginning of fall is actually the best time to rejuvenate and revamp our beauty and wellness routines, so read below for ways that you can recharge your skin and your body and adopt some new self-care rituals…
1 || Bring Out The Retinol
Time to concentrate on cell regeneration and renewal and retinol is the ingredient to incorporate if you’ve been avoiding it during summer. You would still need to protect from the sun so continue to apply your sunscreen daily even if the sun doesn’t seem as strong now.
2 || Add More Moisture
Skin is drier in fall and winter so you will need to concentrate on adding moisture back to your skin. You can do that by switching to a richer night cream, swapping your serum for an oil-based one, and using masks that are hydrating instead of drying ones like clay. Look for hyaluronic acid and peptides.
3 || Lymphatic Drainage
Get a professional dry-brushing treatment or just simply do it at home. 3-5 minutes before your shower is all you need to flush out toxins from your body. Start at your feet, using small strokes, brush upwards towards your heart; you will boost oxygen circulation, release endorphins and have an overall rejuvenating experience.
4 || Care For Your Hair
The hair will need special care after all the summer activities and exposure to heat, wind, sun and either chlorine or sea water. When looking for a hair mask focus on ingredients such as shea butter, coconut, and jojoba oil.
5 || Time To Exfoliate
Exfoliation might make our skin a bit more sensitive so we tone it down during summer. But come fall and winter and you will need to reintroduce exfoliation back into your routine. This can be done either by using a gentle Konjac sponge daily or by doing a bi-weekly chemical peel, which you can also do at home.
6 || Green Supplements
It is time to add green supplements to help our bodies detox and to boost immunity.
7 || Get A Facial
If you’re not the type to get monthly facials then now’s the time. Fall is the best time for a splurgy facial to counteract summer’s effects on the skin.
8 || Indulge In Seasonal Foods
Fall and winter is the time to load up on anti-oxidant rich foods such as sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cabbage, and broccoli. Don’t forget to load up on healing spices as well such as ginger, turmeric and cinnamon.
9 || Become A Spa Regular
Don’t wait until you’re quite older to develop a spa habit. Afternoon saunas do incredible things for your skin and psyche; they ward off winter blues as well as dry skin. No time for a spa, do it at home! Light up a candle for some aromatherapy, make a DIY scrub with oats, almonds and strawberries and use Epsom salts in your bath. You can even apply a face mask while you’re soaking. Moisturise all over afterwards and voila!
10 || Micro-Needling
If you’ve always been curious about micro-needling then now is the time to give it a try. Using a special tool, micro-needling will increase collagen production, lessen dark circles, reduce pigmentation and give an overall glow.
